Biography of Mey Provost
Of Cambodian origin, Mey Provost began her artistic journey at the age of 8 before joining the regional conservatory in Avignon , specializing in classical, jazz and contemporary dance. Encouraged by Maïté Fossen, choreographer and former dancer with Pina Bausch, she joined the Angers National Contemporary Dance Center (CNDC) in 2018. During this course, Mey explored various contemporary dance techniques under the influence of major figures like Angelin Preljocaj, Maurice Béjart, and William Forsythe, among others.
Her collaboration with Yoann Bourgeois in 2020 for Yaël Naim's video clip, her internship with the company XY and her experiences in circus schools have reinforced her interest in contemporary circus and companies combining dance and circus. In 2022, she joined Vincent Dupont's company for a project combining dance and virtual reality, presented at the Lyon Biennale and other prestigious places.
At the same time, Mey immersed herself in Khmer culture, learning the language and getting involved in the Tep Monorom association. She discovered Cambodian classical ballet alongside renowned dancers and stars of the Cambodian Royal Ballet, such as teachers Chap Chamroeun Mina, Chap Chamroeun Tola and Kang Nika.
Signed by several modeling agencies in Paris, Mey combines her profession as a dancer and model, bringing a unique dimension to her performances. Sensitive to social and educational issues, she supports the activities of associations such as Orchidée, Enfant du Mekong and Phare Ponleu Selpak.
Its objective is to promote Cambodian dance and culture throughout the world. She aspires to create a dance studio in Cambodia with her twin sister, which would help develop professional dance within the country, and ultimately develop Cambodian soft power internationally through dance. Mey thus increases the number of return trips between France and Cambodia to develop its network and bring this ambitious project to fruition.
